Sutton NPT - We’ve seen an increase in thefts of motor vehicles overnight across Sutton-In-Ashfield, including those using wireless key technology (keyless entry systems). Criminals are using devices to intercept signals from key fobs, allowing them to unlock and start vehicles without the physical key.
Protect your vehicle with these simple steps:
✅ Always lock your car – Even if you’re only leaving it for a short time. Double-check it’s secure before walking away. ✅ Use a Faraday bag or box – These block the signal from your key fob, preventing thieves from relaying it. ✅ Keep keys away from doors and windows – Don’t leave them near entry points where signals can be easily captured. ✅ Consider steering wheel locks – A visible deterrent that makes your car harder to steal. ✅ Install tracking devices – Helps recover your vehicle if stolen. ✅ Check your car’s security settings – Some vehicles allow you to disable keyless entry.
If you notice suspicious activity, report it immediately via 101 or 999 in an emergency. You can also share information anonymously through Crimestoppers.
